Customer Letter

Dear Mr. Henderson: This letter is to inform you about how pleased I am with the work you did on stabilizing my Georgetown SE. The initial installation of the sway bars, track bar, over-sized shocks and the steering corrections allowed me to feel the road and know that I had control over the motorhome. The recent installation of the larger rear sway bar has made an additional, immense improvement in the handling of the vehicle, particularly in high winds. We crossed northern Minnesota and drove south through Wisconsin during winds so strong that I overheard a trucker on the CB say, “This wind’s so strong that my coffee’s got whitecaps.” He was right. We observed the other recreational vehicles and large trucks leaning and swaying at much wider degrees that we did. In spite of being buffeted by the windstorm, I knew I had control over the Georgetown and neither my wife nor I had any concerns for our safety. It will always be a pleasure to recommend you and your safety impro ... read more

11,857 mile trip with Safe-T-Plus installed

A few comments from Henderson’s Line Up customers after finishing a long road trip. Enjoy! —————————————————————————————————————————– Driving the motorhome on a long trip before you installed the Safe-T-Plus was a challenge with a constant drift to the right and following of ruts. A long trip in the past was considered only a thousand miles. After your team installed the Safe-T-Plus on the “bus” the driving became fun. No driver fatigue, no drift to the right and ruts were not a problem. Now the frost heaves were a different challenge. We encountered strong crosswinds in MT and SD during our return trip. Next time I pass through Grants Pass I’ll want to add on the electric trim control. Thanks again. Your team is great. This is the letter I sent to my friends and family upon our arrival home. We are home, safe from the 3+ month journey. I’ll send out some pictures later. This is just a short note. Nice to be home. Safe-T-Plus great. Steve and Jean

“Time and steering play”

Time. And miles. One of the most simple, yet overlooked facts is than rarely do things “go out overnight.” We’ve seen over and over during our Road Performance Assessments that simple wear and tear (and time on the road!) have been the main causes of “play in the steering” and other such ailments. Most of the time, the decline in road performance is so gradual that driver’s grow used to the problem and simply don’t realize an issue even exists. Recently, at the Beaver Coach Rally in Harrisburg, Oregon (at River Bend Resort) Robert of Hendersons Line Up performed a visual inspection on a gentleman’s coach. After hearing a “clunking” noise, however, the rear joint on the drag link was so loose it was clunking in the steering arm. The customer wasn’t even aware of any issue and simply asked for the inspection after our seminar. The driver decided it would be a good idea to “get things checked out.” To everyone’s suprise, the rear joint on the drag link took two good turns before ... read more

Reduced Resistance = Improved Fuel Economy

The travel season is upon us, and once again, fuel prices have begun to climb. Though the cost of fuel has been fluctuating over the past couple of years, one thing you can count on is that it will rise when the flowers begin to bloom. And as you watch the numbers at the pump begin to climb, you may wonder what you can do to increase fuel economy and cut down on travel costs. You’ve probably seen many articles that have been written about saving fuel, but they typically only touch on things most of us already know, like reducing highway speed and keeping your tires inflated to the right pressure. But there are many other things that can be done to improve fuel economy, and all of them have to do with reducing resistance, in one way or another. Tire inflation pressure is indeed important, but so is the type of tire that you use on your coach. A tire that is wider than necessary typically produces a better ride, but it can also increase rolling resistance. A narrower, heavy-duty ti ... read more

Trucks, Truck Campers and Good Handling

Trucks, Truck Campers and Good Handling

With the volatile fuel prices we’ve been experiencing over the last couple of years, along with a floundering economy, many RVers have been turning their attention to pick-up trucks and campers rather than large motorhomes. Campers are a great alternative, as they are comparatively light weight, maneuverable, and still allow you to tow a boat or trailer. However, trucks that haul a camper, pull a trailer or just carry heavy loads from time to time could benefit from some well-conceived suspension modifications. Using air bags, such as those offered by Air Lift, Firestone and Pacbrake are a great start, but even with these in place, handling is usually far from ideal. When a customer comes into our shop, the first thing we’ll start with is a Road Performance Assessment (RPA) to determine the extent of the truck’s handling issues. Trucks that carry campers often suffer from what we call “tail wagging the dog”. Also common in motorhomes with large rear overhangs, the problem is charac ... read more
